The Agomenya Project: A Glimpse of Hope in Ghana

In January 2017, Charlotte’s Light embarked on a mission to a small village called Agomenya in Ghana, West Africa. Our goal? To support children who had been diagnosed with HIV and whose lives were overshadowed by stigma and a lack of access to proper care. These children had been neglected, not only by their communities but by the world at large. It was time for someone to step up.

With donations and the support of people like you, we provided meals, clothing, school supplies, and medical essentials to these children. But beyond material goods, we brought something just as important: hope. We organized a day of celebration, filled with music, food, and dancing, where the children were reminded that they mattered, that someone cared, and that they had a future ahead of them.

Why International Outreach Matters

You may be wondering: Why focus on international outreach when there are so many issues close to home? The answer is simple—because the world is interconnected, and the struggles of one community often reflect the struggles of many. By working globally, Charlotte’s Light aims to address inequality at its roots, providing aid to the places where it is needed most. Every child, no matter where they’re born, deserves access to basic necessities like healthcare, education, and emotional support.

A Day in Agomenya: What We Saw

On the ground in Agomenya, we saw firsthand how a lack of resources impacts daily life. Children were unable to attend school due to lack of supplies. Families struggled with food insecurity, and healthcare was almost non-existent. But despite these challenges, the spirit of the people was unbroken. We spent time with the children, played games, taught them basic hygiene practices, and most importantly, let them know they were not forgotten.

One of the most heartwarming moments of the trip was seeing the children’s faces light up when they received school kits filled with notebooks, pencils, and learning materials. Something as small as a pencil brought so much joy because, to them, it represented the opportunity to learn, grow, and dream.

The Ripple Effect of Hope

The impact of our work in Agomenya doesn’t stop at the village’s borders. By uplifting one community, we’re contributing to a global movement of compassion and change. The children in Agomenya now have the tools they need to succeed in school and beyond, and this empowerment will continue to ripple outward. When a community is lifted, so too are its future generations.

And this is just the beginning. Charlotte’s Light is committed to returning to Agomenya every year, building on what we started, and expanding our reach to other forgotten communities across the globe.
